CUSTOMS & QUARANTINE
Customs
Strict laws prohibit or restrict the entry of drugs, steroids, firearms, protected wildlife, fauna and associated products. All animals, animal products, food items, plants and plant products must be declared. There is no limit on the amount of Australian and/or foreign currency that may be brought into or taken out of Australia. Sums of over A$10,000 or equivalent must be declared. Person's 18-yrs and over may enter with 1 litre of alcohol and 250 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco duty free. There is a duty free allowance of A$400 per person 18-yrs and over, or a $200 per person under 18-years.

Quarantine
Importation of fresh or packaged food and plant products are strictly controlled. There is generally up to a six month quarantine period for domestic animals. The declaration of such items is handled prior to arrival and must be presented along with your passport when entering Australia.

AUSTRALIAN CURRENCY
Australia uses Australian Dollars a decimal currency with 100 cents in the dollar. The currency consists of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollar bank notes. Coinage consists of 5, 10, 20, 50 cent pieces and 1 and 2 dollar coins. All of the examples in this website are in Australian dollars (A$).

Currency Exchange
Exchange facilities are readily available at all international airports, banks, currency exchange outlets and select hotels. This can generally be done with efficiency and ease in most currencies and traveller's cheques.
